Was at the movies last night. The previews were really just disheartening. I'm, sadly, not surprised to see a hilarious comedy about a man kidnapping his ex-girlfriend - the trailer showed him carrying her over his shoulder and keeping her locked in the trunk of his car - but haven't we moved beyond the point of playing dragging someone behind a vehicle for laughs? As a society?
I don't know what could have been going through their heads. I can get that maybe someone originally cooked the idea up either in ignorance of the entire history of lynching in America or figuring that they'd disregard anyone who might care, but the whole chain of command? Stupid, or evil?
That evil is the sort of thing we combat all the time. But what about that stupid? Are there schools that don't teach students about violence against minorities? That let them think that the only things they need to know about African-Americans are slavery and the March on Washington?
